Best (& Worst) Canned Margarita Mocktails

An honest review of the most popular ready-to-drink, non-alcoholic margaritas

For nights when you don't have time to get out your shaker and squeeze fresh lime juice, here is an honest review of some of the most popular canned margarita mocktails on the market.

Nonalcoholic canned margaritas

If you're looking to craft your own margarita mocktails at home, check out my full review of the Best Non-Alcoholic Tequilas on the market, and the ones I'd steer clear of.

Best Canned Margarita Mocktails - The Winner's Circle

Free Spirits Non-Alcoholic Margarita

Made with an award-winning nonalcoholic tequila, this is my top choice for a ready-to-drink canned mocktail. It has vibrant notes of fresh lime, agave, a hint of charred oak and a depth that the others all miss. It delivers a classic margarita flavor profile that is delicious right out of the can for taking to parties or busy nights at home. From $15/4-pack on their website or Amazon.*

Alcohol-Free Classic Margarita

Sour, salty, bright and smooth this is an excellent choice for a margarita lover. It's a tad lighter than the Free Spirits (think Blanco vs. Reposado), with a crisp and slightly spicy finish. From $16/4-pack at Target or Total Wine & More.

De Soi Haute Margarita

This drink blends fresh lime, agave and jalapeño together with adaptogens like L-theanine and lion's mane to "promote relaxation." The flavor is pretty good and reminiscent of a spicy marg, though quite sweet with the highest sugar count of all the canned mocktails in this review. I would also caution you to be wary of "functional" drinks like this - the adaptogens will not give you any sort of feeling or buzz at this low of a dose, but it certainly won't hurt either. Just temper your expectations. $20/4-pack.

Mingle Key Lime Margarita

Mingle is a female-founded company that makes delicious mixers and canned mocktails. This actually did taste a bit like a key lime pie with notes of sweet and sour key limes. It's more akin to a bubbly mixer than a full margarita replacement, but fun sipping at 50 calories for a 12-oz can. $15/4-pack.

Beckett's Lime Margarita Sparkling Mocktail

Refreshing and bubbly, this mocktail is very light with only 35 calories & 6g of sugar per 12-oz can. It has a nice lime and agave flavor but not much of a tequila taste to it. A bit of that "diet" chemical aftertaste on the finish, but I would buy it again and serve it ice cold on the rocks with a squeeze of lime or even a splash of non-alcoholic tequila. $15/4-pack.

Aplos Chili Margarita Mocktail

I enjoyed this canned mocktail and it only has 2g of sugar per can which I appreciate. It has slight herbal and sweet notes as well as a salinity to it that stands out, but I would never compare it to an actual margarita. It is infused with adaptogens for a "naturally stimulating & elevating effect," which I definitely did not feel so I find the marketing a little misleading, and am guessing it's only used to justify the high price tag. $20/4-pack.

Best Best Canned Margarita Mocktails - THC Buzz without the Booze

ree

Cycling Frog offers one of my favorite line-ups of THC seltzers with incredible flavors and a very fast onset time for a buzz without the booze. This limited time release is so delicious with notes of lime, agave, oak and a peppery finish. It is quite strong and high in sugar, so I cut the can with sparkling lime soda for about a 3mg dose to give me a delicious mocktail in the evenings. Canned Margarita Mocktails I Would Skip...

Improv Booze-Free Margarita

The chemical finish of this was so overpowering it was hard for me to finish this can. It mostly tastes like lime soda, I would save your money and buy Spindrift instead.

Lyre's Margarita

While I really enjoy several of Lyre's products (their G&T and "Aperol" dupes are very good), this one missed the mark for me. It has almost a soapy, fluoride-tasting flavor and I couldn't finish a can.

Little Saints Spicy Margarita

At zero calories this canned margarita tastes like pure chemicals with a very unpleasant flavor and aftertaste. I couldn't finish more than a couple sips. I did try their bottled non-alcoholic tequila as well and with enough mixers to hide the flavor it was ok, though I did not feel any of the "functional" benefits of the Little Saints brand.

Happy clean drinking, I hope you find one you love. Cheers!
